Where is Heterodox Economics Today

Various institiutions and organisations are working to ensure heteredox economics and political eocnomy continue to be taught to a new generation of students and the broader public. Attempts are also continually made to bring together such networks. We would like to run a 2 part workshop, combining an interactive workshop and a panel discussion. The workshop would be run in small groups by 2-3 facilitators. The aim would be to share the different barriers faced in studying, teaching, and publishing pluralist thought. We expect small breakout groups with guided informal discussions and activities. Next, the panel discussion would include three scholars from diverse backgrounds at different stages in the struggle for heterodox economics education. It would be include panelists form and be chaired by early careers scholars. Our motivation is to bring together people from the different IIPPE working groups the day before the separate streams begin, in order to discuss broadly and openly the role we can play in keeping pluralist econ alive in the face of funding cuts and institutional pressure. We would end with facilitated group discussion bringing together everyone in the room to build international solidarities and strategise.
