I am pleased to share the call for applications for theĀ Intensive Course on Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) in Social Sciences, which will take place atĀ UNU-MERIT in Maastricht from 28 September to 2 October 2026.
This full-time summer school is tailored for graduate students, PhD candidates, and early-career researchers interested in leveraging computational modeling to explore complex social and economic systems. Participants will receiveĀ hands-on training in ABM design, implementation, and analysis, using LSDĀ andĀ R,Ā and learning applications inĀ Python (Mesa), and NetLogo.Ā This edition places particular emphasis on comparing manual expert coding (in R, Python, and LSD) with AI-assisted generation (using LLMs like Claude/ChatGPT).
The course also includes seminars by leading experts and personalized feedback sessions.
