Description

This workshop provides a forum for cooperation and collaboration among young scholars in South Korea working on socio-economic history (broadly defined). It invites postgraduate students in the field in different disciplines (e.g. history, economics, sociology, etc.) to discuss ways for interdisciplinary works in the future. For the purpose, the workshop offers two key sessions. First, senior scholars in South Korea working on various topics presents lectures on methodologies and prospects of socio-economic history. The themes are as follow: Challenges of ‘culture’: socio-economic history and the history of capitalism; The Cold War and Economic History; The future of the history of economic thought; Environmental history for socio-economic historians; Literary works and socioeconomic history; The use of ‘statistics’ in economic history. Second, young scholars attending the workshop are expected to present their work-on-progress or dissertation thesis in the special sessions for ‘encounters of young scholars.’ 1) Speed-dating, 2) Present your thesis in five minutes.

As a playground for young scholars in socio-economic history, this workshop stands a platform for further collaboration ‘beyond the disciplinary borders’.

This workshop is sponsored by the Educational Institute for Transnational History and Culture at Kyungpook National University and the Institute for the Study of History at Korea University.
