Description

The Economic Week Seminar is an annual in-person academic event organized since before 2018 by undergraduate and graduate students at the Institute of Economics, University of Campinas (IE-Unicamp). In partnership with the Institute’s faculty and coordination, the seminar is entirely student-led and aims to foster critical thinking and academic debate on a wide range of economic and interdisciplinary topics.

The event features lectures, workshops, short courses, and research seminars delivered by professionals from diverse backgrounds. Previous editions have welcomed professors, Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers, but also specialists from prominent public institutions such as the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA) and the Central Bank of Brazil. In line with its commitment to interdisciplinarity, the seminar also invites professionals from related fields, including Sociology, Political Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science. This approach enriches the academic environment and broadens the dialogue between economics and other areas of knowledge.

The Economic Week Seminar is designed to engage both academic and non-academic audiences. In previous editions, the event has welcomed high school students from public schools in São Paulo, as well as undergraduate students from other units at Unicamp, such as the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH) and the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics, and Scientific Computing (IMECC). By promoting an inclusive and plural space, the seminar encourages the participation of emerging scholars and young researchers, contributing to the development of new generations of economists and social
