Description

POSTPONED New dates will be announced shortly.

On 28 January after 19 months of tense negotiations, Argentina and the IMF agreed to restructure $44.5bn of sovereign debt. In this webinar we will analyze the recent breakthrough agreement between Argentina and the IMF and its implications for the international sovereign debt restructuring process.

In a major shift from previous IMF programs, the recent breakthrough agreement seeks to support the current recovery by not attaching conditionality or austerity measures. Throughout the negotiations Argentine Economic Minister Martin Guzman had stressed the importance of supporting the ongoing economic recovery. He warned that paradoxically the payments due from the 2018 IMF program tightened foreign exchange markets and undermined the efforts to put the economy on a growth footing.
