Description

The Ph.D. Academy on ‘Innovation, Development & Policy’ is co-organized by The North America and Caribbean Chapter of the Globelics Academy (NACLICS, www.naclics.org), HEC Montréal, and the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University. The Young Scholars Initiative is an important partner in this effort as well as one of the co-sponsors.

The PhD Academy Organizing Committee is composed of the following scholars and policymakers:

• Susan Cozzens – Professor Emerita, Georgia Tech, United States.
• Andrew Cummings – Affiliated researcher at the Latin America Social Science Faculty (FLACSO) El Salvador; and the NITLAPAN Research and Development Institute, Central American University, Nicaragua.
• Claudia De Fuentes – Associate Professor, Saint Mary’s University, Canada.
• Jahan Ara Peerally – Associate Professor, HEC Montreal, Canada.
• Alejandra Rosales- Soto – Assistant Professor, University of Guadalajara, Mexico.
• Dhanaraj Thakur – Research Director, Center for Democracy & Technology, United States.
• Thomas Woodson– Associate Professor, Stonybrook University, United States.

The Academy addresses innovation, development, and policy from a multidisciplinary perspective and is relevant to the Global South and the Global orth.
The event will be held at HEC Montreal, Canada, from May 29 to June 3, 2023. It will host selected 28 doctoral and post-doctoral participants from 14 countries. The many accepted participants do research in the following areas:

  • Innovation and development. 14% of total participants
  • Systems of innovation and contributions to technological capability building for innovation, including social, inclusive, sustainable, and responsible innovation.
