Description

During our last sessions we talked about innovation in Europe compared to the USA and varieties of capitalism. In our next session we aim to combine these insights applied to the CEE region by focusing on innovation in Poland.

The core readings for the session are:
Szczygielski, Krzysztof (2019) Innovation Policy in Poland
available at https://www.econstor.eu/bitstream/10419/216281/1/ifodice-2019-04-p07-09.pdf
Oksanych, Oleksandr (2020) Innovation As An Opportunity For Economic Development Of Central Eastern Europe Countries (Poland Case Study)
available at https://www.scientific-publications.net/get/1000043/1600093014757061.pdf

If you would like some more background into how varieties of capitalism literature addresses this region, I recommend:
Nölke, A., & Vliegenthart, A. (2009). Enlarging the Varieties of Capitalism: The Emergence of Dependent Market Economies in East Central Europe
Which distinguishes CEE economies as DMEs (dependent market economies) which are characterised by reliance on foreign capital certain comparative advantages in the labour market compared to western economies.

The session will take place on Saturday 23rd 12:00 (GMT+1) on zoom and the link will become available one hour before the meeting. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me at n.soszynska@youngscholarsinitiative.org .
