Description

About the workshop

Agent-based models have been gaining increased attention from policymakers. With this in mind, the Bank of England is promoting a workshop to bring together researchers who are actively engaged with this methodology. Agent-based models represent a potent and expanding instrument for crafting theoretical frameworks grounded in real-world data. These models are capable of tackling the intricate and dynamic characteristics of economies. Furthermore, they inherently function as policy laboratories, providing a platform to conduct scenario analyses that offer valuable insights for making informed policy decisions.

A YSI session will be held within the ABM4Policy Workshop. The workshop's objective is to nurture an open exchange of ideas between scholars and policymakers from central banks and other international institutions. This exchange will involve presenting research papers and engaging in discussions about the prevalent matters and hurdles surrounding the utilization of agent-based models for policy analysis. The workshop will cover a diverse array of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Monetary, fiscal, as well as macro- and micro-prudential policies
  • Interactions between the real economy and the financial sector
  • Bubbles, crises, financial market instability and systemic risk
  • Business cycles and crises
  • Economic growth and development
  • Innovation and industrial policies
  • Climate-related financial risks and policies
  • Policy and welfare analysis
  • Calibration and estimation of ABMs
  • Comparison of different ABMs
  • Forecasting

The YSI will provide partial travel stipend and accommodation to selected participants. To apply, please fill out
