Description

Join us for the inauguration of the new Center for Heterodox Economics (CHE) at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The CHE focuses on exploring revolutionary ideas that advance heterodox economics and challenge mainstream economic thinking. This inaugural conference will gather leading scholars, organisers, and students to delve into the study of capitalism with its pressing global issues. Speakers include: Clara Mattei, James Galbraith and Branko Milanovic among others.

The Center focuses on three main guiding themes:

  1. Critical Political Economy– advancing the study of capitalism as a class-based society by focusing on its structural features and distributional outcomes.

  2. Critical History of Capitalism and Economic Thought— fostering approaches to the history of our economic system and the evolution of our discipline that enrich the current debate with innovative conceptual frameworks, offering guidance for contemporary challenges.

  3. Praxis—  Theory becomes bourgeois abstraction if not informed by concrete struggles, while collective action is strengthened by revolutionary theory. Therefore, the CHE recognizes the contributions of organizers and the tangible material struggles of citizens as integral to economic theory. We also aim to create an environment that promotes mutual learning and collaboration among scholars, organizers, and citizens at large.

We invite applications from graduate students interested in exploring the question: How does your work embody heterodoxy? to present their work at the YSI @ CHE Pre-Conference workshop. We particularly encourage submissions that engage with
