Description

The Young Scholars Initiative History of Economic Thought 1st Spring School is an opportunity to bring together young and early career scholars from Africa to learn about economic theories that fall under the old and new economic thought. Young and early career scholars will attend lectures from scholars who have engaged these historical theories. It is an opportunity to learn various ways in which they can engage or challenge these theoretical thinking's in their present and future research. The Spring School provides a platform for discussion and debate on the relevance of economic theories in understanding modern economic development and their relevance in the African context. The organisers invite students whose research engages modern economic theories to apply.

Selected participants will be given an opportunity to present their work, receive mentorship from the Spring School mentors. The Spring School is in partnership with the Gerda Henkel African Connect Graduate Conference and selected participants will attend the conference free of charge. They will have an opportunity to interact with other young scholars from different African countries.

We are accepting applications from young scholars working on the political economy of Africa, either from an empirical or theoretical perspective, under the following themes (but not limited to):

  1. History of Economic thought in Africa
  2. Political Economy
  3. Macroeconomics, economic growth, and economic development
