Description

More than a decade after the subprime crisis many economies are still struggling to recover from its effects and current policy prescriptions have not been enough to deal with the scale and complexity of the new economic conditions. Central Banks policies of massive stimulus, historically low interest rates for an unprecedented length and other non-conventional monetary measures have not been enough to foster economic growth. Prolonged trade tensions in the global economy, environmental issues, and systemic problems associated with global inequality and unequal economic development are added to this context.

In the YSI Pre-event @ the 46th Eastern Economics Association Conference, to be held in Boston between Feb. 27–Mar. 1, 2020, we will have the opportunity to discuss how to tackle these challenges and what are the alternatives provided by new economic thinking.

We are happy to announce a mini-course on Feb. 27th at Boston University with Perry Mehriling and Rebecca Ray and two special sessions (program attached) at EEA venue organized by the Keynesian Economics, the Complexity Economics and the Financial Stability Working Groups of YSI/INET, in which we welcome contributions related (but not limited) to the following topics:

  • The causes and consequences of economic crises;
  • Policy responses to economic downturns and liquidity problems;
  • Economic policies and their effects on economic growth and income distribution;
  • Financialization and its
