Description

The aim of this workshop is to bring together for the first time young and experienced researchers who are working on themes related to data-driven economic agent-based models (ABMs). ABMs are mathematical and computational models that explicitly represent the dynamics of units of a system, without imposing any ex-ante equilibrium constraint. ABMs have never existed independently of data: Even the most qualitative ABMs have been formulated with an eye to explaining empirical patterns. More quantitative and realistic ABMs have been using (mostly time-series) data to calibrate parameters, or to establish stylized facts, metrics or summary statistics that the ABM can be validated against.

Here we argue that to make an ABM “data-driven” a more extensive use of data is needed. In particular, we are interested in ABMs that use micro-data to initialize all or some of the state variables of the agents and the environment.

The workshop will run on 27th-28th September 2022 at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy. After theme-based (labor dynamics, climate, macroeconomics) lectures by experienced researchers, we plan to have a session for young researchers to present their ideas and receive feedbacks from those attending the workshop. For a list of already confirmed speakers, here is the website: https://sites.google.com/view/wddeabm/home?authuser=0

We hope that the workshop will also steer some debate between senior and young researchers on how to improve and create the right synergies to move forward with what the ABM community has been voicing. This requires having a
