SUMMARY:Choice and Welfare: Beyond the Rational Agent
DESCRIPTION:A substantial body of empirical evidence shows that human behaviour consistently goes beyond the homo oeconomicus model of a rational agent. Behaviour is shaped by a wide range of additional factors such as cognitive limitations\, fairness concerns\, reciprocity\, social norms\, identities\, altruism\, and spite. Although significant progress has been made in integrating these findings into economic theory\, there remain many open questions. \nWe invite submissions from PhD and early career researchers for a one-day workshop on Choice and Welfare: Beyond the Rational Agent to be held on the 28th of April at Queen Mary University of London. \nThe workshop will feature six selected speakers across three sessions\, with a keynote speech given by Professor Peter J. Hammond (University of Warwick). There will be no parallel sessions. \nShared accommodation\, as well as partial travel stipends\, will be provided for all speakers. \nWe welcome theoretical and empirical contributions seeking to incorporate insights from behavioural and experimental economics into economic theory. Submissions from the fields of choice and decision theory\, behavioural and experimental economics\, social choice and welfare theory\, behavioural game theory\, and behavioural finance are especially encouraged. Potential topics might include\, but are not limited to: \n\nInfluence of AI and digital technologies on economic behaviour\, as well as the economy more broadly.\nImplications of boundedly rational consumers for market competition.\nInfluence of social networks on strategic behaviour.\nWelfare analysis when agents are boundedly rational.\nEconomic consequences of changing preferences.\nUnawareness in decision making.\n\nThis workshop is organised by PhD students in the School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London with support from the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute of New Economic Thinking. \nSubmission\nSubmissions have now closed. \nIf you would like to attend without presenting (either in person or online via Zoom)\, then please let us know using this form. Please let us know by 28 March\, 2025 if you would like to attend in person. \nThere are no registration fees.

SUMMARY:From Theory to Practice: Frontiers in Macroeconomic Agent-Based Modeling
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) for a pre-conference dedicated to the latest advances in Macroeconomic Agent-Based Models (ABMs). This event provides a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field and engage with peers in a stimulating environment. \nThe pre-conference will take place at at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) on April 28\, right before the conference “Microdata in Macromodels” at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) on 29 and 30 April \nParticipants of the pre-conference will be warmly invited to attend the related conference. The full program is available at the following link: https://sites.google.com/view/microdata-in-macromodels/home. Participants who wish to present their work can submit an extended abstract or full paper of them. They might be allowed to present in a dedicated session during the conference. \nThe two-days conference will bring together researchers from diverse modeling fields\, including MABM\, HANK\, and microsimulations fostering dialogue and collaboration across methodologies. The event aims to build bridges among those communities and explore challenges and innovative solutions in using microdata for macroeconomic modeling and will feature guest lectures by Prof. Cars Hommes (Bank of Canada/University of Amsterdam) and Dr. Martin Spielauer (Austrian Institute of Economic Research). \nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: 31-03-2025 \nPre-conference Format:\nMorning Sessions: welcoming session\, introductory lectures on agent-based models (ABMs) by Prof. Domenico Delli Gatti (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart – Milan) and presentation of the IIASA research agenda on ABMs by Célian Colon (IIASA) .\nAfternoon Laboratory Sessions: Participants will engage in hands-on laboratories\, gaining practical skills on how to develope and code a simple ABM under the guidance of Dr. Luca Fierro (IIASA). \nThe full program is available in the main conference website at: https://sites.google.com/view/microdata-in-macromodels/workshop-schedule?authuser=0 \nWhy Participate?\nLearn from Experts: Gain insights from internationally renowned researchers in the field of macroeconomic agent-based modeling.\nHands-On Experience: Develop practical skills in model calibration\, validation\, and application.\nNetworking Opportunities: Connect with a global community of scholars\, from early-career researchers to senior academics.\nSupport for Young Scholars: Selected participants may receive partial travel stipends to attend both the workshop and the pre-conference.\nPossibility to present in the main conference: Participants who wish to present their work can submit an extended abstract or full paper of them. They might be allowed to present in a dedicated session during the conference (preference will be given in particular to those study employing microdata). \nThe pre-conference and the workshop are ideal for researchers eager to explore how MABMs can address macroeconomic challenges by integrating microdata and leveraging advanced simulation techniques. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in this cutting-edge field while enjoying the vibrant academic atmosphere of Vienna. \nTo apply and/or be considered for partial stipends\, please complete the application form provided here APPLY HERE (applications are now closed). \nIf you have any question regarding the event\, please feel free to contact us at: wienworkshop@gmail.com \n  \nImportant dates:\n\nYSI pre-conference application (+ abstract submission) by March 31\nYSI Pre-conference: April 28\n“Microdata in Macromodels” Conference: April 29-30
