SUMMARY:Sixth Young Scholars Conference on Structural Change and Industrial Policy in Africa
DESCRIPTION:About the conference\nIndustrialisation and industrial development have re-emerged on the development agenda of many African countries. Africa’s industrial resurgence\, however\, needs to integrate new multiple global challenges\, including climate change\,digitalization\, and regional integration (UNIDO IDR\, 2024). \n  \nThe DSI/NRF South African Research Chair in Industrial Development (SARChI-ID)\, hosted at the College of Business and Economics (CBE)\, and the Young Scholars Initiative (YSI) are pleased to invite abstracts from young scholars for the Sixth Young Scholars Conference on Structural Change and Industrial Policy in Africa. We welcome papers exploring central issues around Africa’s pathway towards achieving sustainable industrialisation and structural transformation. \n  \nThe conference will be held on 9-10 JUNE 2026. Senior international scholars will act as discussants at the conference to provide feedback on presented papers. The conference will be held in a hybrid format\, with the option ofcongregated physical attendance at selected satellite venues\, where attendants can participate in the conference as agroup in a single venue. Attendance is free and open to the public. \n  \n\nTraining\nThe 2026 conference will also entail a separate training workshop on 8 JUNE 2026 focusing on research methods for industrialisation research. \n  \n\nApplications\nDeadline for submissions: 17 April 2026 \nPresentation at the conference is open to postgraduate students\, postdoctoral research fellows and early career researchers. \nPresenters whose abstract submissions are successful will be required to submit presentations by 15 May 2026. The submission of full papers at this time is also encouraged to allow discussants an opportunity to engage more closely with the work. \n  \nSubmissions are invited around the broad themes of structural change\, industrial development and industrial policy in Africa. Studies with a sub-national\, national or supra- national focus are all welcome. \n  \nTopics could include\, but are not limited to\, the following: \n\nStructural change in Africa\nIndustrial development\, industrialisation\, sector studies\, and deindustrialisation in Africa\nThe political economy of industrial policy in Africa\nTrade and industrial development in Africa\nThe innovation\, technological upgrading\, and the 4IR in Africa\nGreen industrialisation and green industrial policy in Africa\nGendered aspects of industrial development and policy in Africa\nLabour market or distributional aspects of industrial development in Africa\n\nPlease click HERE to submit your abstract and/or an application to attend the training course: \nFor consideration to present at the conference\, extended abstracts of 600-800 words are required. The deadline for all submissions is 17 April 2026. SUMMARY:2026 RSAI World Congress
DESCRIPTION:The 15th World Conference of the Regional Science Association International will be held from 9th to 12th June\, 2026\, at Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN)\, Quito\, Ecuador. The conference is jointly organized by the RSAI and the Ecuadorian Section\, Ecuadorian Regional Science Network (RECiR). \nThe meeting is open to the world-wide regional science community. It aims to bring together the key elements of multidisciplinary regional science research and to provide a scientific platform for presenting and discussing research that advances our understanding of wellbeing and sustainability across regions and communities. \n  \nThe central theme is “Wellbeing and Sustainability: Regional Science discussions at the Earth’s Core“. Key topics include wellbeing; regional\, rural\, and city development; spatial planning; climate and environmental change; sustainable development; governance; resilience; innovation; data science; and artificial intelligence—reflecting the Congress’s commitment to advancing wellbeing and sustainability at the Earth’s core\, are important issues covered in the 2026 RSAI World Congress. \nThe congress will host countless exciting events\, including special sessions and semi-plenary policy sessions. \nThis global event expects to host between 250 and 300 participants from around the world.  \nImportant dates \nDeadline for special session proposals: December 15th 2025 \nDeadline for abstract submission: January 20th\, 2026.  \nNotification of abstract acceptance: January 30th\, 2026 \nDeadline registration at a reduced fee: February 20th\, 2026 \nDeadline registration for being included in the program: March 23th\, 2026 \nRegistration fees are differentiated by RSAI membership and type of country. \n
