SUMMARY:YSI @ V Agent-Based Models in Economics Seasonal School 2026 | Sant’Anna
DESCRIPTION:The economy is a complex and ever-changing system that requires sophisticated analytical tools to understand its many dimensions. As young researchers\, we often grapple with how to account for heterogeneity\, interactions\, non-linearities\, path dependency\, and tipping points\, among other factors. \nThat’s where agent-based models come in. These powerful tools can help us tackle the complexity of the economy. In this project\, we will learn and explore together the frontiers of macro ABM and how it can help us answer the most pressing economic questions of our time. \nOur project is a partnership with the Institute of Economics at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna\, which offers a seasonal school on “Agent-Based Models in Economics: Theory\, Toolkit\, and Policy Laboratories.” This year’s school follows the success of the 2022\, 2023\, 2024\, and 2025 editions and includes discussions organized by the YSI side event\, lectures on ABM techniques\, software labs to develop and design models\, and instructions on how to analyze data produced by ABMs. \nBy participating in this program\, selected students will acquire the technical and methodological skills necessary to successfully develop and analyze simulation models in their research projects. Whether as part of a PhD or research paper\, this training will allow them to use ABMs as a valuable tool to gain insights into the economy’s workings \nMore information about the school can be found here. The school is aimed at Master’s and Ph.D. students enrolled in Economics curricula\, while applicants from other disciplines are also welcome.

SUMMARY:YSI Experimental Panel @DSA2026: Interdisciplinary Workshop on International Political Economy and Development
DESCRIPTION:The YSI panel will take an experimental format given that the main objective is to establish theoretical nexus\, empirical extensions\, and concrete opportunities for interdisciplinary work in international political economy and development. We will welcome papers highlighting the shifting terrain of global geopolitics and the emergence of a multipolar world order\, focusing on how evolving alliances and economic realignments are reshaping aid\, diplomacy\, and state sovereignty. As traditional hegemonies wane and new powers rise\, global governance\, development agendas\, and international political economy are undergoing profound transformation. \nWe invite papers that critically engage with these dynamics\, especially those examining the implications for Global South actors\, alternative models of development\, and contested norms of international engagement\, contextualised within the conference theme of reimagining development. In continuing with the format from our panel at DSA2025\, each participant will not present their own submission but will instead be in charge of discussing a paper submitted by another Young Scholar. Their discussion must focus on how their own research benefits from and informs the work that has been assigned to them. Young Scholars will then be able to provide clarifications and facilitate a deeper understanding of their own work. Thus\, a concrete outcome from this experimental panel would be a network of early career researchers working on closely related topics\, which can potentially lead to joint research projects and future collaborations. \nDeadline for applications: May 18\, 2026

SUMMARY:19th EAEPE Summer School on Global Geographies of Thought in Economics\, Law\, and Political Economy
DESCRIPTION:This summer school aims to map some of the methods and theories involved in research related to economics\, law and political economy. What rhetorical economies and conceptual grammars are available? How do they engage each other? What do they foreground and background? Where do they share or differ in style or logic? What are the economies of this academic knowledge-production (i.e.\, its institutional arrangements\, implicit professional codes)?  How might different disciplinary toolkits be productively put into conversation? Are certain practices\, words or themes key to understanding our current world of struggle? Participants interested in these types of questions across disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. \n  \nTo understand a situation\, to bring ‘context’ to any events\, to make sense of confused information\, implies geographic concepts at work – distance\, location\, movement\, time. Governance reflects competing ideas over how different locations are connected\, what timeframes govern movement\, what sorts of units should be put in play. Different traditions\, priorities\, and networks clash; the literature and professional sensibilities of the disciplines are a key site of struggle. \nPotential topics include: \n\nWhat sociological facts are useful to understand the movement and success of particular academic literatures or ideas?\nWhich cross-disciplinary discussions have not succeeded (and why)\, and where would productive cross-disciplinary work take place now (and what does that look like)?\nHow do fields such as economics\, law and political economy shut down (or encourage) cross-disciplinary ideas or new ideas in the discipline?\nIs governance more helpful to think about in vertical or horizontal terms\, and how do these spatial framings matter?\nWhat space-time maps may be useful for better understanding our worlds of struggle among experts in economics\, law and political economy?\n\n  \nParticipation \nThis summer school is open to PhD students and early career researchers working across fields such as economics\, law and political economy. Academics will collaborate with participants in master class sessions\, writing workshops and roundtables. The discussion will use the lens of geographic concepts loosely as a prompt to explore conversations to map the methodologies and theories involved in global law and political economy literatures. \nThere are no fees for participation. Daily catering will be provided\, along with one social dinner. Accommodation will be covered for approximately 10 participants. Scholars from Africa\, South America and Asia are especially encouraged to apply\, in the spirit of new voices and new perspectives. \nTo apply for the summer school and funding\, we ask you to provide a short letter of motivation for your participation in the event (max. 400 words)\, a CV\, and an abstract of research that you would like to present (max. 500 words). Accepted participants will be expected to provide a text of up to 6000 words by mid-June for writing workshop sessions. Depending on the availability\, we might allow participation as a listener only. \nOrganizers \n\nFranziska Klein (Wageningen University & Research\, Netherlands)\nJakob Nitschke (Sapienza University of Rome\, Italy)\nJohn Haskell (University of Manchester\, United Kingdom)\nLuigi Salvati (University of Messina\, Italy)\nChristina Mosalagae (Institute for New Economic Thinking – Young Scholar Initiative\, United States)\n\nThe 19th Annual EAEPE Summer School is co-organized by the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy\, the Initiative for Global Law and Political Economy\, the Institute for New Economic Thinking Young Scholars Initiative Finance Law and Economics Working Group\, and the Law and Political Economy Collective. \nFaculty will be announced shortly. If you would like to get in contact with the organisers\, please send an email to: summerschool@eaepe.org. \n  \nImportant dates: \nApplication deadline: 18 May 2026 \nNotification of acceptance: 25 May 2026 \nFinal registration deadline: 7 June 2026 \nPaper submission: 15 June 2026
