SUMMARY:The Circulation of Economic Ideas in the Iberian World (18th–20th Centuries)
DESCRIPTION:The workshop will take place at the University of Seville in Seville\, Spain on December 2\, 2026\, the day before the XIII Meeting of the Iberian Association for the History of Economic Thought. In partnership with the Latin American Association of History of Economic Thought (ALAHPE) and the Iberian Association of History of Economic Thought (AIHPE)\, this project seeks to advance research on the production\, circulation\, and reception of economic ideas in the Iberian world\, with particular attention to the historical connections between the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. To this end\, we propose a transdisciplinary approach centered on the relationship between the dissemination of economic knowledge and the exercise of political power. The aim of this proposal is to explore: (1) how certain ideas become consolidated as dominant approaches in the theoretical and political debates of different regions; (2) how they connect with economic policy\, institutions\, governments\, elites\, and power groups; (3) how they are disseminated; (4) how they are received\, reinterpreted\, adapted\, or imposed in territories with autochthonous social\, cultural\, and institutional characteristics\, and (5) how those ideas\, in turn\, reverberate within and reshape these contexts. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for participants to engage with new topics\, perspectives\, methods\, and insights\, while fostering long-term intellectual exchange among scholars from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. \n  \nParticipants  \nThe organizers will select five young scholars\, including Master’s students\, PhD candidates\, and postdoctoral fellows whose research addresses the History of Economic Thought in Latin America or the Iberian Peninsula\, the dissemination of economic ideas to or from either region\, or the intellectual and political connections between the two. Participants will have the opportunity to deliver presentations of their research projects or working papers and receive feedback from senior scholars. \nAccommodation for the workshop and the first day of XIII AIHPE Meeting (3 Dec.) will be provided free of charge\, and funding to cover the transportation costs of participants will also be available on a case by-case-basis—depending on the country of residence. \n  \nHow to apply \nIf you are interested in attending the workshop\, you should: \n\nbe a young scholar (Master and PhD students\, post-docs\, and early career scholars);\nbe a member of the YSI History of Economic Thought Working Group\nattend the XIII Meeting of the Iberian Association for the History of Economic Thought.\nsubmit a brief bio (max 150 words) and a short abstract (max 300 words ) of your research to this form by June 30. Note that applying to the workshop and applying to the conference are separate procedures.\nProposals can be sent in Spanish\, Portuguese or English.\n\nApplicants will receive a response by the end of July at the latest.
