SUMMARY:YSI-ISHET 2026 Pre-Conference Workshop at the Centre for Development Studies\, Thiruvananthapuram\, Kerala\, India.
DESCRIPTION:The first and second annual conferences of the Indian Society for the History of Economic Thought (ISHET)\, held at the University of Hyderabad in 2024 and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) in 2025\, provided a platform for researchers\, students\, and academics from across India—including those from institutions located in non-metropolitan centres—to exchange ideas and receive feedback on their research and experiences of teaching the history of economic thought. Together\, the two annual conferences featured the presentation and discussion of over 250 papers. \nISHET annual conferences are committed to creating and reinforcing a safe and healthy space for scholars at all stages of their academic careers and from diverse regional and social backgrounds. In order to provide a thriving and nurturing space for young scholars\, the YSI History of Economic Thought Working Group has organised two successful editions of the pre-conference workshop at ISHET annual conferences. The first YSI pre-conference workshop focused on writing and publishing in HET\, while the second focused on tools for researching in HET. \nSeveral young scholars have benefited from these YSI-ISHET pre-conference workshops\, and many have begun or further developed their research and publication efforts after attending the workshops and interacting with speakers and peers. Building on this experience\, we introduce the third YSI-ISHET pre-conference workshop\, to be held as a precursor to the 2026 ISHET Annual Conference at the Centre for Development Studies\, Thiruvananthapuram\, Keralam. \n  \nWorkshop Objective\nThe 2026 YSI-ISHET pre-conference workshop aims to provide young scholars with exposure to various themes and approaches in conducting research in the history of economic thought. The workshop will feature the following themes and speakers: \n\nOn Publishing in HET —  Harro Maas (University of Lausanne\, Switzerland) \nOn HET and Economic History — Feba David (Manipal Academy of Higher Education\, Bengaluru\, India) \nOn Researching Classics in HET — Alex M. Thomas (Azim Premji University\, Bengaluru\, India) \nHistorians of Economic Thought and the Archive — Sharmin Khodaiji (Jindal Global University\, Sonipat\, India) \n\n  \nWho Should Apply?\nYoung scholars—including bachelor’s\, master’s\, and doctoral students\, as well as early-career researchers—who are pursuing or interested in the history of economic thought are encouraged to apply. \nTo qualify for travel stipends\, participants must meet the following requirements: \n\nBe a member of ISHET\nBe registered for the ISHET conference.\nDemonstrate a strong interest in HET research through their application.\n\nThis workshop is intended as a pre-conference activity\, and participants are required to register for the ISHET conference by paying the applicable registration fees. \n  \nImportant Dates\n\nDeadline for submitting the Statement of Purpose (SoP): 7 August 2026\nNotification of acceptance for workshop participants: 11 August 2026\nDeadline for paying the fees to confirm acceptance: 14 August 2026\nYSI Pre-ISHET Conference Workshop: 9 October 2026\nISHET Conference: 10-11 October 2026\n\n  \nHow to Apply\nTo apply for the workshop\, submit a 400–500-word Statement of Purpose (SoP) explaining how participation in the workshop and the ISHET conference will contribute to your academic aspirations.  \n  \nFinancial Support\nFinancial support will be provided in accordance with ISHET’s philosophy of equity. This will take into account factors such as the applicant’s social identity\, the nature and location of their institution\, and the quality of their application (SoP). Selected participants will also be provided accommodation on a sharing basis and travel stipends.
