Complexity in Economics and Finance

This year the Conference on Complex Systems (CCS) is in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil from 16-20 October, 2023. INET YSI is partnering with the satellite workshop on "Complexity in Economics and Finance" that will take place during the conference on October 18th or 19th. This event aims to bring together young scholars active in the area with experts in the field. Indeed, satellite workshops organized as a part of CCS are the major engine for including young scholars in the professional activities of academic researchers in complex systems. Participants will receive state of the art insights in complexity science and its application to economics as well as valuable feedback on their presentations or posters by experienced mentors and peers.

The Complexity Economics Working Group invites Young Scholars with relevant research works to submit for a contributed talk or poster at the "Complexity in Economics and Finance" workshop at CCS. The call for abstracts and the submission link can be found on the workshop homepage: https://sites.google.com/view/fineconets-ccs2023. Abstracts are a one-page document and include at least one figure, as is standard for the field of complex systems. Abstract selection will be administered by the team of academic organizers; the deadline is Aug 4, 2023.

INET YSI will be able to offer a number of travel stipends to young scholars based in Brazil and/or elsewhere in Latin America. Applications for travel support are administered through the Young Scholar Directory, deadline Aug 6, 2023. Travel stipends are intended to support in-person participation for accepted contributors to the "Complexity in Economics and Finance" workshop, and consist of a contribution towards the cost of air travel plus the possibility of shared accommodation from 15-20 October, 2023 near the venue (SENAI CIMATEC). We welcome YSI participants to see this as an opportunity to attend other tracks of CCS on the surrounding days to experience top research in complex systems.

Registration to CCS is mandatory for all participants. Applicants will be notified about the outcome of their (1) abstract submission and their (2) application for travel support in time for the CCS 2023 early-bird registration deadline on Aug 18, 2023. There is also the option for virtual participation, which may be attractive for YSI applicants in the event that travel support cannot be extended to all accepted abstracts. INET YSI does not pay registration fees.
