Description

MACRO-HET aims to provide a detailed analysis of the differing ecological perspectives between the global North and South. Investigating how environmental attitudes adapt and can be coordinated requires a complex systems approach. Social scientists are beginning to explore how individuals, who use simple decision-making rules and have limited understanding of their environment, communicate and learn, resulting in collective climate behaviors. MACRO-HET’s main ambition is to create a coherent narrative that supports international collaboration for innovation-driven and inclusive development, addressing the major challenge of climate change.

We are pleased to call for Young Scholar participation in the 2024 MACRO-HET Workshop, which will take place at the University of Siena, Italy, from 16 to 18 October 2024. The theme for this year’s workshop is “Sustainable Development: Structural Change and the Environment.” The goal is to create a platform to discuss innovative approaches, methods, and techniques for addressing inclusive development in both the global North and South, with a strong focus on the current environmental crisis.

Theoretical and empirical contributions on structural change and the environment are welcome, while those addressing the following topics are particularly encouraged:

– Structuralism and behavioural macroeconomics

– Climate change and environmental economics

– Social interactions and social norms

– Complexity and uncertainty

A variety of methodological approaches is welcome, particularly:

– Nonlinear dynamic systems

– Heterogeneous Agents Models (HAMs)

– Agent-based Models (ABMs)

– Stock-Flow Consistent Models (SFCs)
