Inequality from global south: intersectional frameworks to understand and study current crisis

Across the Global South, inequality is shaped by colonial legacies, uneven integration into global capitalism, financial dependency, extractivism, environmental degradation, and persistent intersections of class, gender, race, ethnicity, territory, and migration. These dynamics produce forms of exclusion and dispossession that challenge conventional approaches centered solely on income distribution or social mobility.

This panel invites contributions that place the Global South at the center of debates on inequality, exploring how structural asymmetries are reproduced and contested across different scales. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological papers.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

• Inequality, dependency, and global value chains.

• Financialization, indebtedness, and social reproduction.

• Feminist, decolonial, and intersectional perspectives on inequality.

• Labor market transformations, informality, and precarious work.

• Extractivism, ecological conflicts, and environmental justice.

• Poverty dynamics and multidimensional inequalities.

• Public policies, welfare regimes, and redistribution.

• Territorial, urban, and rural inequalities.

• Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and marginalized communities.

• Migration, mobility, and transnational inequalities.

• Alternative development strategies and South-South perspectives.

The panel seeks to foster dialogue among young scholars who critically examine the production, persistence, and transformation of inequalities from the experiences, epistemologies, and realities of the Global South, contributing to more plural and context-sensitive understandings of contemporary development.

The motivation is to develop further these problematics and invite more young scholars to explore the intersecctions of inequality, as well as invite to connect with senior scholar during two conferences: the ICAPE Conference and ASSSA Conference.
