Project Description: First AMHE Summer School

This project is the inaugural edition of the First Summer School of the Mexican Association of Economic History (AMHE), organized by the AMHE, the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), and the Young Scholar Initiative (YSI).

Theme and Scope

The main theme for this first edition will be “ECONOMIC HISTORY OF MEXICO”. The Summer School aims to gather postgraduate students and young researchers from anywhere in the world to present preliminary results from their research projects. Proposals must be on topics related to the Economic History of Mexico, covering the period from the colonial era right up to the present.

Participants and Structure

• Participants: The school is primarily aimed at postgraduate students (master’s and doctoral candidates) and young researchers (those who received their Ph.D. between 2024 and 2025). A Scientific Committee will select 24 proposals from all applications received. Participants are welcome to apply from any part of the world, provided their research aligns with the thematic guidelines.
• Specialists and Keynote Speakers: Experts dedicated to the study of Mexico’s economic history will be invited to review and comment on the papers presented by the participants.
• Sessions: The program will include sessions dedicated to the presentation of participants’ research, which will be commented on by topic specialists to promote in-depth discussion.
• Workshops and Conferences: The event will feature hybrid thematic debate workshops focused on the research process. Furthermore, at the end of each day, there will be a lecture delivered by prominent economic historians on their research experience, the challenges of historiography in their field, and their broader intellectual and professional concerns.
