Description

The Doctoral Forum on Complexity in Statistics and Economics will be placed at the Economics Institute building in the UFRJ campus, city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The forum will have mentors, senior scholars who would be responsible to give feedback to the students, reading previously the papers and raising comments during presentations. The audience will be PhD students and young scholars (5 years since earning a PhD degree). The students will be grouped by theme in order to present their work in parallel sessions. Each parallel session will be compounded by 4 presentations (20 minutes each) with a time reserved for mentors and audience comments.

The Forum will cover a variety of topics related to Complexity in Statistics and Economics:

  • Models of complex economic systems
  • Agent-based modeling
  • Applications of economic, ecological, or social networks
  • New statistical methods on Machine Learning
  • Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in official statistics
  • Complexity in demographic research
    Each topic will be the general theme of at least one session of students presentations.

*The call for papers is open from January 16, 2020 to February 28, 2020. *

Students and other young scholars shall submit a paper (or a research proposal or a summarized version of the thesis) with in between 500 to 2000 words prior to the deadline by the email rioforum@youngscholarsinitiative.org. The selection of papers for presentation will be done by organizers in a blind review method. Selected works will be announced until March 13.
