The Inequality, History of Economic Thought, Political Economy of Europe, and States and Markets Working Groups of the Young Scholars Initiative are happy to announce a call for participation to the YSI Pre-conference@ STOREP 2024.
The pre-conference will take place at University of Milan, Department of Historical Studies on June 26th and 27th, right before the annual Italian Association for the History of Political Economy STOREP Conference (27-29 June 2024). The theme of the conference is “Why Inequalities Grow: Value and Distribution in the History of Economic Thought”. We are inviting presentations of research which connect to this theme, or to one of the research-focuses of the working groups listed below.
The pre-conference will feature three types of sessions:
- A research poster session for young scholars to share their work
- A series of “research methods seminars” led by young scholars
- Mini-workshops and discussions with invited senior scholars
Young scholars can apply to present either a research poster, or to lead a research method seminar.
The poster session is intended for research projects at all levels—from advanced bachelor to post-doctoral. Posters presenting both completed research and works in progress are welcome. The methods seminars will be short presentations about the research methods which young scholars are using in their work. These seminars will explain

The poster session is intended for research projects at all levels—from advanced bachelor to post-doctoral. Posters presenting both completed research and works in progress are welcome. The methods seminars will be short presentations about the research methods which young scholars are using in their work. These seminars will explain the logic of the method, give a brief overview of how it works, and some examples of how it is applied. We are hopeful these methods seminars will be useful both for building greater understanding among researchers from the different working groups as well as for brainstorming ideas for future collaboration. Young scholars at any level can submit abstracts to lead methods seminars, but we imagine they will be more relevant for relatively advanced young scholars (PhD students and Post-docs). In addition to the poster presentations and the method seminars, young scholars can indicate their availability to serve as discussants for the senior scholars.
Partial travel stipends and accommodation are available for selected participants. Travel stipends are intended to help cover travel from within Italy or in Europe. Accommodation will be for both the pre-conference and the following STOREP conference in a shared apartment in Milan. We expect all participants receiving accommodation to attend the STOREP conference. It is also possible to register to attend the pre-conference without presenting, but please let us know by filling the form below so we can plan accordingly.

All applicants must submit an abstract in English (150 words maximum) and a very short motivation statement (50 words maximum).
Applications are now being considered on a rolling basis. The extended submission deadline is April 30.
We will require selected applicants to confirm their attendance by registering to the main STOREP conference and confirming it with the YSI organizing team in a timely manner.
